High Tibial Osteotomy

Abstract
The high tibial osteotomy is one of the surgical procedures for the primary or secondary degenerative arthritis of the knee.
We have perfomed seven cases of high tibial osteotomy and one conventional tibial osteotomy for the treament of varus deformity of the primary and secondary degenerative arthritis of the knee from October 1978 to May 1981.
The following results were obtained from analysis of the cases.
1. The average corrected angle (from varus to valgus) was 21.4 (range 16 to 36) .
2. The range of motion of the knee joints were increased in two cases and decreased in
one case.
¢¥3. The knee joint pain was relieved in all cases. six knees were good and two knees were ,fair.
4. For the. selected patients of degenerative arthritis of the knee, the high tibial osteotomy for varus deformity is a good procedure to relieve pain and function of the knee. It gives a good chance; to ¢¥restore a painless joint motion either temporarily or permanently and it might be easier to perform the knee joint replacement in the later years of patients life if necessity arises.
